The Lady Adventurers Club by Karen FrostThe Lady Adventurers Club by Karen Frost is a historical adventure story, with romance and a touch of the paranormal.

Archaeologist Anna Baring is used  to being the only woman in her chosen profession. And gaining little respect from her peers. A meeting in New York changes all of that. Three women come along to her talk on Egyptology, and it is then that she has the idea of forming the Lady Adventurers Club. All so different from each other, but each of the women bring something unique and vital to the group. One is a Wild West Shooter, one a mathematician, and the other an aviator.

When Anna finds a tomb that may hold even greater riches than that of Tutankhamun, she invites the women to join her for the opening. But an unstable political situation and greedy criminals and looters put Anna’s plans at risk. Danger lurks around every corner and it is a race against time to save the treasure and themselves.

Pros And My Favourite Parts

I love anything to do with Egyptology, so this book was a must for me. Karen Frost captures the excitement and mood of the 1920s, when King Tut’s secrets were about to be revealed. Including real life characters in her story put the story firmly in that place and time.

Her four main characters were accomplished women, each with skills and knowledge complementing each other. Anna’s upper class English aristocrat appeared to have little in common with a French academic, an Annie Oakley type and a daring and brave aviator. But together they made a formidable team. I found something in each of them to admire and root for. The camaraderie was exciting and powerful.

The story had mystery, adventure and a hint of the paranormal. It was nail-biting, romantic and empowering.

The Conclusion

If you enjoy your romance mixed with a rip-roaring adventure, then this is the book for you.  Karen Frost allowed her characters to becoming more than they ever could as individuals. By joining together as the Lady Adventurers Club, they found strengths they could never have imagined. For some, they found a love that they never knew existed. I was swept away with them.

Excerpt from The Lady Adventurers Club by Karen Frost

Anna had had enough of disappointments. One didn’t defy one’s father’s wishes and spend decades in the desert to have nothing to show at the end of it. One didn’t spend nights lying sleepless in the Egyptian heat, give up friendships and comfort for nothing but endless rocks and dirt. There had to be something here. But what? She hardly knew. The people who knew what an intact tomb looked like were in no position to say. They had turned to bone and dust long ago. All she had was imagination, and she was nothing if not grandly imaginative.
