Finding Molly Parsons by Alyson RootFinding Molly Parsons by Alyson Root is a delightful coming-of-age sapphic romance.

Faith Parsons, 18 and eager to make her lesbian debut, must escape an oppressive religious community in rural Kentucky. Her journey is not just physical but also a courageous self-discovery, as she navigates uncharted territories with hope. Guided by fate she embarks on a journey to find her long-lost Aunt Molly, the Parsons family’s sapphic secret, Faith is driven by a deep desire to break free from her toxic past and find a new familial embrace.

As Faith unravels a series of obscure clues, she meets the sexy and commitment-phobic Carmen, Matteo, Carmen’s sequined-covered sidekick, and Enid Butcher, the cannabis-loving (self-appointed) neighborhood watch. This motley crew navigates family, friendship, and love in this uproarious journey to find Molly Parsons.

Faith’s story is a transformative adventure filled with twists, turns, and spicy encounters, where chosen connections prove enduring magic and love finds a way.

Alyson Root has quickly become one of my favorite sapphic romance authors. Her books are thought-provoking, relatable, and filled with loveable characters. Her ability to craft multi-dimensional characters and tackle tough themes with both sensitivity and humor is commendable. With Finding Molly Parsons, she shines a light on the challenges faced by individuals within the queer community, especially when it comes to acceptance and unconditional love from family. Its blend of emotional depth with moments of levity creates a compelling narrative that will keep readers invested in the characters’ physical and emotional journeys.

Pros And My Favourite Parts

Finding Molly Parsons really struck a chord with me because Alyson Root addressed real-world circumstances and created such vivid, relatable characters which is definitely a testament to her talent as a writer. It’s amazing how each character contributes something unique to the story, adding depth and complexity to the tale.

Faith has been kept separate from the rest of the world. The abuse she suffered from her tyrannical father could have broken her, but her spirit and desire to live her life on her terms gave her the courage to break free of the proverbial shackles and escape. Seeing the world through her eyes as she navigated her new life was truly heartwarming. She discovered her own sense of style (with Mateo’s guidance), attended her first Pride, became part of a supportive and loving family, and found love all the while being an open, honest, and compassionate young woman.

Carmen and Mateo’s bond was truly remarkable. The connection between them was built on shared experiences and unwavering support. Their willingness to accept Faith into their lives without any hesitation spoke volumes for their kindness and generosity. Mateo’s zest for life, evident in his love of spa days, makeovers, and red-carpet events provided so much joy. Carmen’s level-headedness and compassionate nature serve as a stabilizing force allowing others to thrive and grow while also transforming the way she views the world.

Enid Butcher was full of life and personality, adding a vibrant energy to the story. Her feistiness, lack of filter, one-liners, penchant for making cocktails with naughty names, and love of cannabis-infused gummies made her the perfect addition to this wonderful cast of characters. Despite her colorful exterior, her keen insight and observant nature served as a catalyst for change for the other characters.

The Conclusion

Finding Molly Parsons is a compelling narrative that offers a meaningful exploration into identity and relationships. The heavy topics are balanced with not only humor and characters who are willing to go the extra mile to help others. The quirky, relatable characters form a familial unit that demonstrates the power of love, acceptance, and companionship in overcoming adversity and embracing life’s possibilities. It’s both heart-wrenching and heartwarming, a story that will leave readers to reflect on the characters, their experiences, and their growth. Excerpt from Finding Molly Parsons by Alyson Root

“I’ll get it,” Mateo sang. Carmen rolled her eyes. One hundred bucks, Daniel is the delivery guy. Daniel was Mateo’s not-so-secret crush. Whenever they ordered pizza, they went to Vinnie’s. Not only because it was the best pie in Seattle, but because Mateo enjoyed looking at Daniel.

“Hey, chica, there’s a white girl at the door for you.” Carmen scrunched her eyebrows. Who the hell had turned up? Becky maybe? No, she’s out of town. Donna, possibly? They were the only white girls that would come knocking, but it was far too early in the day for either of them, regardless of whether they were in town.

Hauling herself off the sofa, Carmen studied her attire. Rainbow boxer briefs and a scraggy tank top did not scream sexy. “Eh, it is what it is,” she mumbled.

Mateo passed her in the hallway with a judgmental look on his face. “Damn Carmen, she’s young, even for you!”

What the hell did that mean? Carmen didn’t sleep with young women. Twenty-five was the lowest she’d ever go, and that was stretching it. Ten years her junior was the limit. Carmen arrived at the partially closed door. As soon as she opened it, she understood Mateo’s concern. The girl in front of her looked barely eighteen. She was gonna kick Mateo’s ass for thinking this girl was Carmen’s booty call.

“You’re not Molly,” the girl barked, her eyes wide, and face pale.

“And you’re not an extra-large veggie supreme with a side order of mozzarella sticks. Looks like we both lost out, huh?”

“Damn,” the girl growled. “Damn, damn, damn.”

Carmen had no idea what was happening, but she knew she wanted to extricate herself from whatever it was.

“Sorry for disappointing. Um… bye.”

“No wait, please,” the girl begged. Carmen stopped closing the door. “Do you know Molly Parsons? This was her last address.”
