Dead Pretty by Robyn NyxDead Pretty by Robyn Nyx is a romantic suspense between an FBI agent and a reality TV star.

Agent Dak is a consulting FBI agent who specialises in cold cases, she is finishing the assignment that brought her to Salt Lake City and preparing for her next case in Seattle when another brutally disfigured body is discovered.

Mortician by trade CJ’s, glamorous reality TV career has come to an abrupt pause when her successful show is unexpectedly not renewed at the end of the season. While her agent tries to figure out her next step CJ leaves Hollywood and returns home to Salt Lake City until her new deal is secured. There she finds that a hunky butch FBI agent has moved in next door and its lust at first sight.

When CJ accepts a temporary job at the local mortuary she finds herself embroiled and potentially the target in an active serial killer case. With more bodies being found and the killer making direct contact with CJ, Dak must race to solve the case before the elusive killer strikes close to home.

Pros And My Favourite Parts

The chemistry between Dak and CJ is really hot and even though it is a strong driver for both characters it does not get in the way of the plot, this is still a suspense thriller not just a setting for a romance.

The relationship between CJ and Dak is really cute and wholesome even though it’s really sexually charged, it takes a lot of talent to create that balance.

Cons And Heads Up

My only con with this book was Dak’s name, I really struggled to get my head around it and would have liked the story behind it to come in a little earlier so that my mind stopped wanting to correct it to something else.

The Conclusion

I enjoyed this book. It was an easy read that still played into my love for the mystery and suspense genre without being too heavy. I think both lovers of the thriller genre will like this as well as those who are dipping their toes into it and don’t want anything too complicated or too violent.

Excerpt from Dead Pretty by Robyn Nyx

CJ parked alongside it. She left the top down—anticipating the need for a swift escape after thirty minutes, tops—and switched out her sneakers to three-inch heels. She stepped out, expecting her father to scramble out from under his car and investigate the intruder with the foreign car on his property. The Saturday poker nights he and his buddies spent guessing car makes from short sound clips of their engines had kept her up way past her bedtime too many times to count. And they were made all the more memorable by her confusion that he had time to spend with them and never any time for her. She curled her toes in her heels. She hadn’t thought about her childhood in years, and she didn’t want to start now. Her impending proximity to her parents made reflection inevitable. So be it.

Her unwanted thoughts were nicely interrupted by the person who emerged from beneath the car. She was unexpected, to say the least. Unexpected in a very, very good way.

What was it about a tight white T-shirt straining across a muscular chest, its sleeves desperately trying to stay stitched over strong, bulging arms? Teamed with greased-up old jeans, a thick belt, and engineer boots, it knocked the whole appearance of this woman into another stratosphere of sexy. Oil on her nose and cheek, hair just long enough to run her hands through and flop lazily onto her forehead—it was like she’d just stepped out of a lesbian calendar shoot. CJ didn’t want to dwell on the fact that the woman had just emerged from underneath her father’s car. For a blissful moment, she was transported into a fantasy world where this impossibly handsome woman would look under her hood and take her for the ride of her life. Okay, she wasn’t impossibly handsome. There was no such thing. But she was incredibly good looking, and CJ found herself hoping her car wouldn’t start.
