Oh My Stars by S-J HartOh My Stars by S-J Hart is a contemporary, small-town romance about finding ‘the one’ when you least expect it.

Honey Rosenburg loves her hometown of Verity Vale; it fits her perfectly and she has never felt the need to leave. She shares evenings with her elderly neighbour and best friend, playing chess and drinking cider. She co-owns and works in the local deli with her sisters, baking sweet treats that the people of Verity can’t get enough of.  The only thing missing from her life is someone to love, who is willing to stay and shares the same dreams she does.

Liv Henderson seems to have the perfect life. Her girlfriend is gorgeous, she has a beautiful city apartment and a job she always wanted. But deep-down Liv knows things are not really perfect, something is missing, and her dreams are on hold. When the inheritance of a property far from the home she knows, coincides with her city life unraveling, Liv is faced with a chance to fulfill those dreams and become the person she is meant to be.

With a sky that’s filled with stars and a connection that’s felt from their first meeting, can these ladies be true to themselves in order to be happy?

Pros And My Favourite Parts

What I enjoyed most about this book was how well you get to know the characters throughout the story. I felt as though I was spending time with friends, which in turn made me feel the ups and downs they went through more personally. I was invested in each character’s growth and future both separately and together it kept me turning the page and helped me get lost in the story.

Honey is your typical girl next door character. She is kind and loving and always willing to help out. She is the town’s sweetheart. She bakes, is great with kids, and runs a successful business, what’s not to love? But that is Honey’s problem, she just can’t seem to find the right person to love her for who she is, so she always ends up changing to try to be whom her partner wants. She loves freely and falls hard and fast so always ends up getting hurt.

Liv is living what she thinks is the perfect life, sure some of her dreams are squashed in order to maintain this but Liv buries her head in the sand, so she doesn’t rock the boat. She has been brought up to want the best from life but deep down she knows that something is missing. Watching Liv on her journey of self-discovery is charming. She is a lovely character and once she is away from the stoic environment in the city, she flourishes, she has some bumps to get over and she makes mistakes but that just makes her journey all the more beautiful to witness.

I loved that Honey and Liv had so many similar attributes that complimented each other. These women are perfect for each other and watching them fall in love is something to cherish.

The storyline is great, it’s sweet and funny as well as having moments filled with anguish.

The description of the town, houses, and deli are stunning. The author did a great job at transporting you there, I wanted to stare at the stars, and I swear I could smell all the delicious, sweet treats that Honey baked.

Cons And Heads Up

There is cheating from partners but not from the main characters.

The story deals with the death of an elderly family member/friend.

The Conclusion

Oh My Stars is a small-town romance filled with hallmark sweetness and anguish. It’s a book about learning to do what is right for yourself in order to be the right person for somebody else. This book is full of candy-coated moments that will leave your heart happy.

It has a small-town cast of characters to fall in love with and the descriptions of Verity Vale will make you pack up and want to move there.

If you like your romance with a pinch of drama, a spoonful of spice, and a cup of sugar! Then this one is for you.

Excerpt from Oh My Stars by S-J Hart

“Happy Birthday Buzzy!” came a shout from the wrap around porch of the old house on the top of the hill. Honey had decided, as she was oft to do,  to check in on Marvin , her neighbor and the man who had kindly let her rent the little cottage she lived in. Towering over her at six foot but with a gentle smile that broke past the wrinkles of time on his weather worn face, he was one of Honey’s favorite people in the world.

“Marvin, you remembered!” Honey knew he wouldn’t have forgotten. He was getting old but that was one thing that had remained intact, his memory. He prided himself on it and it showed when every Thursday he would beat her -with ease- at Chess.

“I may be old but I still got all my faculties. Well, most of them.” He winked, settling down in the old wooden rocking chair he had made himself many moons ago, “You got time to indulge me in a quick game?”

Honey found herself slipping into the chair opposite before he had even finished speaking, holding up the cardboard carrier she had lugged across the field with her.

“As if I could resist. Cider?” She pulled a bottle out. Leaning the lip of the metal seal against the edge of the table, she brought her hand down precisely and was rewarded with a pop.

“As if I could resist. You know me too well,” Marvin smirked, reaching out his shaking hands and nodding his thanks , “So, your girl’s coming home soon, right? I’m going to miss our little game nights.”

Honey lifted another bottle from the carrier she had placed beside her feet and angled it against the table, biting down on her bottom lip. She brought her hand down a little harder this time. The lid was not the only thing breaking free from its seal. Sadness swam in her stomach, her feelings for Andie drowning against waves she could no longer control.
