The Homecoming by Sabrina BlaumThe Homecoming by Sabrina Blaum is a beautiful contemporary romance about honesty, acceptance, and the importance of togetherness.

Temperance Worthington has spent most of her life on the outside looking in, that is until she fell in love with Rania Karam and Antionette Joseph, the married couple who lives next door to her grandmother.

Even though none of them believes in ‘the price of happiness’, the events of a stormy August morning put their relationship to the ultimate test when an accident threatens to shatter everything they’ve carefully built.

The aftermath of this unexpected crash threatens to tear them apart as they each face and battle their ultimate demons. Along the way, we learn how their story came to be and discover what they stand to lose as they try to overcome all of the obstacles standing in their way.

Writing

Wow! The Homecoming is absolutely spectacular! Sabria Blaum has gifted readers with a heartfelt, emotional, and moving romance between three incredible women. Each of the main characters is well-developed, and multi-dimensional, with clear personalities, and character traits. This is a credit to Sabrina Blaum’s magnificent writing. Their story is told with a dual timeline that combines the present and past which are impressively woven together to give readers a clear picture of who they are, how their relationship began, and the challenges surrounding Tempe’s traumatic event. The chapters are aptly named along with the month and year to avoid any confusion, which I greatly appreciated. The dialogue is natural and flows so effortlessly.

Pros And My Favourite Parts

Sabrina Blaum has an uncanny ability to craft a story that pulls at my heartstrings. I could feel Rania and Antionette’s anguish first when they found out about the effects of Tempe’s accident as well as when they were kept from her hospital room for days without being given any updates about her status. I can’t even begin to comprehend how difficult it would be to be kept from your partner’s hospital room because of a piece of paper and an unaccepting parent.

Antionette and Rania’s twelve-year marriage is strong with absolutely nothing missing. They weren’t in search of a third but as their friendship with Tempe grows deeper, feelings on all three of their parts develop. I love how Blaum shows how these developments affected each woman. Antionette and Rania don’t want to hurt one another because of their feelings for Tempe and once Tempe realizes her feelings for them,  tries to stay away. Fortunately, Antionette isn’t afraid to confront things head-on and because of her brazenness feelings were brought to light!

I absolutely adore all three women so much! Tempe’s calm demeanor, Antionette’s lack of filter, and Rania’s steady presence all work so well together. It’s almost like they are pieces of a puzzle that with a little persistence connect perfectly. Their conversations are deep, meaningful, and thought-provoking. Sabrina Blaum doesn’t shy away from having her characters participate in philosophical conversations on a multitude of topics.

I would be remiss if I didn’t add how essential the chemistry between Antionette, Rania, and Tempe is. That underlying sizzle is apparent from their first meeting and continues to burn hot as the story continues. Speaking of hot…this story is seriously hot! Sabrina Blaum magnificently captured the essence of their physical connection along with their emotional one. I needed to fan myself a few times while reading some of those scenes!

Heads Up

Homophobia and unsupportive families play a role in this story.

Also, this is the fourth book in Blaum’s Constellation series and can easily be read as a standalone. I do recommend reading the other three books as they’re all fantastic too!

The Conclusion

The Homecoming by Sabrina Blaum is a beautifully crafted tale that I found difficult to put down. Fortunately, I was able to shirk my adult responsibilities so I could devour this book in one day! I was gripped from the first page as Tempe’s car hydroplanes, turns end over end, and comes to rest on its roof. Breathless doesn’t even begin to describe how I felt after reading that scene. The captivating story weaves the present with the past and allows so much character growth and development. Antionette, Rania, and Tempe are three amazing women who, despite what society says, have worked together to build a wonderful life and an unbreakable bond. I highly recommend this book to anyone who is looking for a story that highlights the importance of love, support, honesty, and commitment!

Excerpt from The Homecoming by Sabrina Blaum

She’d never thought much about dying.

The sense of immortality borne in childhood and surging during one’s teenage years no longer seemed as becoming at twenty-five. As such, Temperance Worrington’s insight that not every goodbye guaranteed a reunion stung.

The tires spun in tune with her steering wheel, and for a split second Tempe thought, ‘Wow, physics is real,’ before realizing that this would be the end. An ending when she’d just begun.

Rage flooded her in a flash, much like the water had shot over the embankment and gushed onto the road. Waves of dark, murky rainwater pouring over asphalt that had baked yesterday in the Floridian August heat.

Her sedan lurched down the slick road before careening toward the bend and heading straight for the concrete barrier. Tempe counter-steered, but to no avail, as her car skidded along the barricade with the screaming sound of metal on concrete before her world spun when her vehicle flipped.

Her car pivoted to the right and veered across the street until it crashed to a stop on its top.

Tempe shook, hanging upside down with blood dripping up her nose from biting her lip. She tried to catch her bearings, taking deep breaths that throbbed. She clutched the seat belt, trying to unbuckle it. Tempe yanked and tugged at the unyielding harness, not noticing the vehicle barreling toward her until pressure exploded and her body snapped back when the two cars collided in an ear-splitting bang that never seemed to end. Until it did.

Tempe’s world turned black.
