Crushing on Cupid by Naomi Piper is an erotic romance about being pierced by the arrow of love to find your soulmate.
Love is Serena’s job and she loves her job, though she’s not terribly good at it. In a rush to fill her quota of shooting arrows of love at people so they’ll find their soulmate, it takes a moment for her to notice the cute woman on the dance floor can see her. Humans aren’t supposed to be able to see love fairies.
Charlie has noticed the pink haired woman at the club and can’t take her eyes off the incredibly gorgeous femme. The next day she’s mortified after nearly hitting her with a wrench and invites her to an apology lunch.
Love hits Serena right in the heart, but she must somehow bring herself to finish her quota and shoot Charlie with an arrow so she can find her soulmate. If she can’t she may lose her job, and her wings.
Pros And My Favourite Parts
This is a very quick, hot read, and also very sweet. Charlie is a woman of the world entranced by the gorgeous and cutely naïve feathered fletcher of love. Serena loves everything about Charlie, from her strength and good looks to her patient tutoring in the ways of eating food, getting high, and sexy times. It’s all new to Serena and both of them have a great time exploring the world and each other.
There are a number of hot scenes for a novella sized story and it made me happy to see both characters enjoy each other so much. Charlie is obviously experienced, but no lothario, making Serena’s awakening fun and loving. The author immediately hits the mark with a believable fantasy world and two characters who couldn’t be more different but thoroughly complement each other.
Cons And Heads Up
There is some spirited sex play with toys, and a lot of fun erotic passages for a short piece. My only complaint is how Serena can be that naïve after having worked with humans for so long.
The Conclusion
Hot times between charming Charlie and love fairy Serena enriches a sweet romance between a heart of gold butch and a pink haired angel. Serena has one job, to shoot Charlie in the heart with love’s arrow so she will find her soulmate. But what if her mark turns out to be the love she never envisioned for herself? And then there is the real danger of losing her job and her powers if she doesn’t let Charlie go.
The story is short but very sweet, and I would happily read more stories based in this universe and between these characters.

Dave leans back in his chair and inhales loudly. “Okay. Is there anything I can do to help you hit your quotas? You have to communicate with me before I can do anything about it.”
“I know,” Serena starts, then clicks her teeth together. “I’m sorry, I just don’t want to mess anything up.”
“You’ve been in this post for over eighty years, Serena!” His voice is not unkind. Just a little exasperated, which is understandable. “When have you ever messed anything up?”
Well, never. “I’m sorry, Dave,” is all she says.
His face softens. “Serena, I’m on your side here. You know the higher-ups have been on my back about this. I’m doing what I can’, but… You don’t have many more chances before their patience is up.”
“I understand,” she whispers.
“Just speed up, honey. Don’t doubt yourself so much!”
“I’ll try.” She nods.
“I know you will.” Dave flickers four fingers from one hand in the air, and Serena’s pendant chimes in response. Her new assignments. “Send in Jax for me?” Dave says. “He should be fluttering around somewhere.”
“Is Jax behind on his quota, too?” Serena asks, secretly grateful she’s not the only slacker on the team.
Dave rolls his eyes. “No, he keeps marking cross-species couples. I don’t know who the fuck he thinks approved that.” He flicks a finger, pulling a list of names up between them. “A human and a werehyena. Another with a…what the fuck is a cecaelia?”
