All At Sea by Cheyenne Blue

All At Sea by Cheyenne Blue is a trapped together romance set on a boat. If you enjoy stories about families coming around to a changed perspective on lgbt matters and loads of drama then you are likely to enjoy this one. Read on, my friends, and I will tell you all about it.

Stevie Sterling has graduated nursing school and is about to start a new job at a nursing home for the elderly. She is thrilled that she is finally living the life she has always dreamed of. She has a career of her own and is getting to help people.

When she tells her mother that she graduated her mother congratulates her and suggests a small gathering on their boat to celebrate. Stevie is skeptical but agrees. Perhaps this time her family will be accepting of the fact that she isn’t going to take over running the charity like they want. Maybe this time they will accept her choice.

Sadly, that’s not the case and Stevie ends up shattered by her parent’s unwillingness to accept her career and life in general. She gets drunk and ends up sleeping on a stranger’s yacht. The next morning she wakes up to find that she is half a day out to sea.

Kaz Malone is an eco warrior on a mission. She has to save the ocean from a liner that is set on dumping nuclear waste into the oceans near Australia. When she gets an unwelcome stow away she is unimpressed and refuses to head back to land and miss the opportunity to help intercept the liner.

Stevie is worried about not being there for her first day of work. The unyielding woman who she is trapped with is attractive but infuriating and will not return her to shore.

Can they see beyond their seemingly different worlds to realise that they are attracted to one another? And even if they do, is there a real chance for them when they live such different lives?

Pros And My Favourite Parts

Blue created two socially conscious characters who had their own way of trying to make the world a better place. I liked that. I am a fan of nice people.

I also do love a girl next door and Stevie is as sweet as they come. But, like every girl next door, there is steel in her spine, so don’t mess with her.

Kaz was a bit of a prat, honestly, but she did get a redemption arc and became less of a prat which pushed this book firmly into the category of love makes us better people. If that’s your happy place then this a good one for you.

Let’s not forget the star of the show, Sinbad the cat. While Sinbad didn’t get a lot time in the story he was a delight and elevated the entire book.

The audiobook is narrated by Shiloh Grey. The narration was not bad. I could have used a difference between the leads in terms of vocal quality because there were definitely moments when I was confused as to who was speaking.

Still, I enjoyed the audiobook and recommend it for audio lovers.

Cons And Heads Up

I am sensitive to bickering. I don’t like ongoing, nitpicking fights and there were a few of those in this audiobook. At about a third of the way in I was getting tired of it and was pondering abandoning the book entirely. However, I stuck it out and I am glad I did. Not long thereafter the story shifted gear and became something quite lovely.

The Conclusion

Cheyenne Blue created two memorable characters, a delightful cat sidekick and a cool way for them to be trapped together with a plausible reason as to why they had to stick it out.

This is a good one for you if you like the idea of two genuinely good souls finding one another and getting together, a dramatic romance, and books with boats. And if you just love the Australian accent then this one will get bonus points.

I enjoyed this audiobook and believe fans of romance will get a kick out of it.

Chapter 1

She’d done it.

The words on the screen blurred as Stevie’s eyes filled with tears. She dashed them away impatiently and read the email from the university again. Three years of study came together in this moment. Stephanie Sterling: registered nurse. And she’d succeeded on her own terms.

Stevie sprang up from the chair and took two paces to the window. She stared out without really seeing the street scene below.

Registered nurse. The words hummed in her mind. She closed her eyes, and the joy expanded in her chest, spilling over in a tumble of laughter. She’s actually done it. Stevie drew a deep breath, then another, and threw open the door to her small balcony. Flinging her arms wide, she screamed down at the quiet street below, “I passed! I’m a qualified nurse!”

A courier paused as he got into his vehicle and gave her a thumbs up. “Good on ya, love. Nurses make the world go around.”

Stevie blew him a kiss and retreated inside before she made even more of a fool of herself.
