The Marriage Masquerade by Toni LoganThe Marriage Masquerade by Toni Logan pairs two wounded people with big trust issues who engage in a Maui fauxmance to try and heal their life.

Taylor has had a heartbreaking life, and it gets a little worse when her nearly estranged grandfather dies. He was almost never there for her in life, and now that he has died she finds he left her a legacy that tests her less than zero ability to trust anyone.

Jayden enjoys her personal trainer sessions with Taylor. It’s time well spent trying to recover from a debilitating accident, plus she can fantasize about spending romantic time with the buff and sexy trainer. She knows Taylor would never go for someone like her, because no one ever has.

Both of them are surprised when she volunteers to marry Taylor so she can get the deed to her grandfather’s B&B. It’s on Maui, and what could be a better place to recuperate?

Pros And My Favourite Parts

Jayden and Taylor are both really nice people, but they have been so wounded by life that it’s worth the wait to see their lives improve. Taylor’s damage comes from a large extent from her grandfather, who was a real…bad person. He not only didn’t help her while alive, his will requires her to totally uproot her life and trust she can turn the legacy into something good – beginning with trusting someone to marry and then divorce her. The author puts a reader through the wringer, though, with a fair amount of angst that builds as the story progresses that makes for a great conclusion.

Though her circumstances are a bit different, Jayden is also really wounded emotionally and physically. She makes the great choice to take a year-long sabbatical to Maui, where she makes an unexpected friend. Her largest obstacle is letting go of all the negative forces in her life, from an ex-girlfriend to a very low self-image.

Taking large chances in your life takes enormous trust, which is in short supply for both of them. It also takes bravery, if you’re going to leave everything you know and move a good distance across the globe. I found the story to be very uplifting and encouraging on several levels. Combined with the larger than normal angst for a fauxmance, it gave me a lot of feels.

Cons And Heads Up

None.

The Conclusion

Taylor and Jayden are not a match made in heaven, but in a lawyer’s office on the reading of a will. Taylor’s grandfather made her life difficult while he was alive and now that he’s dead could make it even worse. Jayden has issues both emotional and physical following a bad car accident, and when she hears her personal trainer talk about the will’s stipulation, she volunteers to be Taylor’s wife as it means a year near her crush, and in the hospitable environs of warm Maui. They must each overcome negative forces to find their way through this test and maybe toward real love.

Married. She silently repeated the word that felt like a soap of cold water. “So.” Jayden took a breath as she stood on the rubber belt, praying to the Lesbian God of Lust that Taylor would remain holding her for the remainder of their session. “Who’s the lucky woman?”

“Don’t know yet.” Taylor jumped off the treadmill and leaned against the machine.

“Okay, back up,” she said as her body shivered from the residual excitement of having Taylor’s arms around her. “Are you seriously telling me you don’t know who you’re marrying?”

“I’m seriously telling you I don’t know who I’m marrying.”

“I don’t understand,” Jayden inquired.

“It has to do with my grandfather’s will and a little business arrangement I’ll need to make with someone that’ll include both a marriage and a divorce.”

“Okay, wait…you’re going to marry someone knowing up front that you’re going to divorce them?” Okay, first of all, does this mean my fantasies are back in play? And secondly, and most important, why in the world would Taylor go through the trouble of marrying someone she has no intention of staying with? It wasn’t that Jayden ever thought of herself as being traditional, but she questioned whether or not she could ever do something like that for the sake of a business arrangement.
