Ghost Tour- A Spooky Sapphic Short Story by Sue StillGhost Tour by Sue Still is a paranormal tale of eternal love so powerful that it overcomes not only the direst tragedy, but also breaches the barrier between realms and the expanse of time.

Hallowe’en is a time when the veil between the spirit world and our own thins, allowing for ghosts to cross from their realm into ours. What better time of year to visit a haunted manor? Especially when there is a particular ghost whose presence you simply must find.

This Hallowe’en eve, a group of women attending the annual ‘Spooktacular’ event at Goodship manor are ready for a night filled with fright. But behind the chills and thrills the manor has in store for them, lies a deeper and darker tale of an horrific murder from the past. Will the women find what (or who) it is they seek? And what will happen if they do? After all, ghosts usually have a reason for haunting, don’t they?

Pros And My Favourite Parts

I have always been a fan of ghost stories, so I had to pick this one up when I saw it. It is a quick read that is light on the spooky, and more focused on the everlasting power of love (although there are some pretty horrifying events that have taken place in the past that are scarier than any ghosts). It is well written and is short enough that it makes for the perfect story for a break-time escape.

Cons And Heads Up

There are some serious content warnings as there is a description of the traumatic and brutal death of a character who is beaten and left for dead for being a lesbian, and an instance of suicide described in the book. However, it does end with a spin on an HEA.

The Conclusion

If you believe in the eternal power of love, are looking for a quick read, and aren’t spooked out by a few ghosts, then look no further. This is a great short story that would be perfect to read by the campfire or on a stormy night.

Excerpt from Ghost Tour by Sue Still

A small sign for ‘Spooktacular’ points down a path lined with softly glowing lanterns towards a large wooden door at the front of the house. As I get closer, I can see the door is slightly ajar, and in its center sits a wrought iron door knocker in the shape of a lion’s head. A small sliver of light from inside the house casts an eerie glow over the ground. On each side of the door sits a line of large lit pumpkins, carved with creepy faces, their huge teeth glaring at us in warning. Apprehension fills me, and I pause before I decide on whether to enter. Finally, Joan knocks. A middle-aged man and woman – I assume the organizers – greet us, beckoning us inside.

We enter the building and into a large open space. There are doors on either side, and a huge winding staircase in the centre curves round to an upper floor. I notice three other women milling about, waiting. When they see us, they look over and smile.

“Okay. Everyone is here now. Let’s begin.” The man claps his hands.

I move closer to Joan as we group together and gather round.

“Good evening, and welcome to Goodship manor for our Halloween ‘Spooktacular’. I’m Betty and this is Bob.” Betty stands beside Bob. They both face our group, who huddle around them. Betty is short, even shorter than Joan – if that’s possible – with salt and pepper hair and a jolly smile. Which she turns on us before she continues. “Halloween is the best night of the year for you to see the spirits of the departed, and for the next few hours you will get to spend a spooky night on the grounds of one of England’s most haunted houses. You are in for a real treat!
