Evermore by Elle HydenEvermore by Elle Hyden is the second book in the Mystic Meteor Tales, with a fractured ice queen melted by the love of an empath, a sweet little girl and Cleo the wheeled dog.

Evermore is what Raven secretly longs for, but she has not known love yet in her life. She writes code for her popular online game at her secluded, highly secure home. The walls around her heart are as fearsome as the one around her estate, but her body is getting weaker and she needs a steady caretaker.

Lynn is not only great at taking care of people, but she needs a quiet place to lay low from her travels with adorable little Destiny and their wheelchair bound pup Cleo. A spectral raven guides her toward a caretaking job with a woman who quickly proves to be prickly and very private. The empathic Lynn can hardly see beyond the walls Raven has built around her emotions, but she comes to care for what she sees.

Pros And My Favourite Parts

Evermore is the second in a series but stands alone very well. Life has tried to crush Raven from the very beginning, and even though she has become terribly guarded and tends to lash out when pushed, she is at heart an amazingly loving person. When given a reason and a choice she gives of herself fully, which becomes a healing balm for all the characters involved, both living and spectral.

Lynn is, as my grandmother would have said, a hippie. Life hasn’t crushed her, but it certainly hasn’t been entirely good to her over the years, beginning with growing up in a commune with a woman who loved her but was not her mother. She’s a super giving person and very spiritually in tune. This makes it easier to interact with the spectral raven that was possibly my favorite character in the book. Empathy does not protect her from self-doubt and reluctance to give herself fully to someone romantically. I found their coming together to be not only fraught but very satisfying given their somewhat perilous journey.

Cons And Heads Up

Raven and Lynn keep some really large secrets from each other. I know the plot needed it, but it was really difficult to read.

The Conclusion

Grouchy ice queen Raven rolls around her walled estate getting weaker physically and icier in her veins. She knows she needs someone to take care of her, but when new hire Lynn shows up with a little girl and a dog it’s almost a deal breaker. She was guided to Raven’s employ by a spectral ravens who knows why they’re on the run. Despite their rocky start, it quickly becomes apparent Lynn will take excellent care of her, and the ice begins to melt the first time little Destiny climbs into her lap for a ride in the wheelchair. All four inhabitants of The Castle have had a rocky start to life, but love has powerful healing powers.

Excerpt from Evermore by Elle Hyden

Lynn reached up and cupped her hand around the black tourmaline hanging on a chain from her neck, that she wore for protection against negative influences. In awe, she drew nearer until she stood a few feet from the glowing silver bird with its unusual amber eyes.

When a throaty voice squawked out, “Help…you”. Lynn’s jaw dropped open in surprise.

Stunned by this turn of events, it took a minute before Lynn could find her voice. “You’re here to help me?”

“Yes.”

She’d never spoken to a spirit before, although she’d felt them around her since she was a child. There was no mistaking the benevolent energy emanating from this otherworldly being. Lynn could use some divine aid and would be an idiot not to take advantage of its guidance. “How?”

“Destiny.”

Lynn pursed her lips in thought. Destiny? Was it referring to the little girl now in her care or some ordained direction she needed to take? Lynn promised to keep Destiny safe. She could certainly use help with either or both.

“What do I need to do?”

“Get…GayLore.”

Her brow wrinkled. “I don’t know a Gaylor. Where can I find him?

“No!” the bird said in an exasperated tone. “Gay…Lore…magazine.”
