Delilah Green Doesn’t Care by Ashley Herring BlakeDelilah Green Doesn’t Care by Ashley Herring Blake is a highly entertaining queer romantic comedy that focuses on strained family relationships and finding love and a sense of belonging where you least expect it.

Delilah Green left Bright Falls right after her high school graduation and she swore that she would never return because her childhood memories were tainted with loneliness and she always felt like she was an unwanted addition to her emotionally distant stepfamily. Her life in New York isn’t a bed of roses but her photography career is finally getting the recognition it deserves and she always has a steady supply of no-strings-attached hookups.

Delilah’s entire world was turned upside down when her estranged stepsister, Astrid, guilt trips her into photographing her wedding. She doesn’t want to go back to Bright Falls but she decides to take the job anyway because it comes with a five-figure check. Delilah wants to keep her visit as brief as possible, but when she lays eyes on Claire Sutherland, one of Astrid’s closest friends, she thinks it’s the perfect opportunity for her to have some fun and get a bit of revenge as well.

Claire Sutherland would like to have an orderly and predictable life. She has been raising her eleven-year-old daughter on her own because her irresponsible ex is always breezing in and out of their lives and she is also running a bookstore. And nothing in this world could have prepared Claire for Delilah Green’s return to Bright Falls. Even though they’ve lived in the same small town and went to the same high school together, they’re practically strangers to each other—so Claire is really worried when Delilah figures out what makes her tick. When fate intervenes, Delilah and Claire are forced to spend more time together because there are wedding preparations to take care of and there’s also a plan to save Astrid from her awful fiancé. Claire is falling deeply in love with Delilah even though they had agreed to keep things casual between them but her heart wants what it wants…

Can Delilah and Claire stop Astrid from making the biggest mistake of her life without breaking their own hearts in the process?

Pros And My Favourite Parts

From the moment I laid eyes on this gorgeous cover, I knew that I’d fall madly in love with this story. Delilah Green Doesn’t Care is the romantic comedy that my queer and nerdy heart has always dreamed about reading. I just love Delilah’s rough edges, tender heart, snarky attitude, frank manner of speaking and her beautiful tattoos! Claire stole a huge chunk of my heart as well because she will go above and beyond for her friends and family members and I can totally relate to some of the difficulties she has to deal with as a single parent.

This is definitely a well-written, character driven novel with dual points of view from Delilah and Claire. I couldn’t get enough of the sexual tension and the steamy moments between Claire and Delilah and I got all the feels when I watched them slowly fall in love with each other. Plus, I truly enjoyed every moment of the pre-wedding drama and the face-palm worthy schemes Delilah, Claire and Iris came up with. After reading this delightful story, I can’t wait to binge read the next book in this series!

Cons And Heads Up

A toxic relationship with a step-parent and past parental death were mentioned several times and those issues could be triggers for some readers.

Excerpt from Delilah Green Doesn’t Care by Ashley Herring Blake

“Hmm,” Delilah said, resting her chin in her palm. “That’s quite the predicament.”

Claire laughed again. It was a nice sound. Completely without pretense. She wasn’t playing a game here. She was just… cute. “You’re not going to help me out?”

“I haven’t decided yet.”

“Well, I’d appreciate you throwing me a bone. I’m not very good at this.”

“Good at what?”

“Flirting.”

Delilah made her eyes dramatically wide. “This is you flirting?”

“Oh god,” Claire said, dropping her head into her hands.

“I’m kidding,” Delilah said, taking a sip of her bourbon. “I know exactly what’s going on here. You’re trying to recruit me for a cult. I get it.”

Claire lifted her head and laughed, eyes sparkling behind her glasses. “You got me. I’ve got the Prophet out back ready to shave your head and brand a unicorn on your ass.”

“A unicorn?”

“It’s a queer cult.”

This time Delilah laughed. “Well in that case, sign me up.”

Claire’s lips parted, just a little. “Really? So you’re…”

She trailed off, waiting for Delilah to fill in the rest. Delilah leaned in until her mouth was right next to Claire’s ear, her knees brushing Claire’s hips. She smelled like a meadow, like fresh air, some delicate flower just underneath. Delilah made a show of breathing her in. Or maybe it wasn’t even a show. This woman was funny and sexy and adorably unsure of herself, and for a split second, Delilah forgot who she actually was.

“I’m very, very queer,” Delilah whispered, releasing the words slowly while her bottom lip brushed the shell of Claire’s ear. The other woman inhaled softly, the sound fluttering low in Delilah’s stomach.

Claire pulled back, her dark eyes all pupil. “That’s very good to know.”
