Bulletproof by Maggie CummingsBulletproof by Maggie Cummings is a sexy, workplace romance with a new twist on an old classic.

Dylan Prescott is an NYPD detective with a keen eye for details, and little interest in relationships. She’s happy spending her weekends cruising the singles scene and she’s charming enough to woo all the ladies.

Briana Logan is a career focused attorney with plenty of convictions under her belt. She works hard, and that’s really about all she has time for. Dating isn’t on her radar until she meets Dylan Prescott.

Thrown together as they work a high stakes, drug case, their chemistry is undeniable. What starts out as casual with coffee hangouts in the office, soon becomes a lot more than either are ready for.

Pros And My Favourite Parts

McKinney has done a great job with the narration for this book and the cadence of Dylan and Briana is distinct which I loved.

There are a lot of minor characters in this one, both at the precinct and as part of the case and Cummings has done a fantastic job of making them distinct without taking away from the main characters which is something I’m always wary of with this kind of romance.

Cons And Heads Up

More of a heads up than anything. If you’re seeing the words cop and lawyer and thinking this is going to have a cool mystery as a subplot, you’ll be disappointed. While there is a subplot involving the drug case, there is no mystery to it, the only mystery is whether they’ll find enough evidence to convict.

The Conclusion

I love a good workplace romance, and this book did not disappoint. If you like your cops and lawyers, this is the romance for you.

Excerpt from Bulletproof by Maggie Cummings

“Think that has potential?” Dylan’s voice was low, her breath warm against her neck as she bent in close to speak.

“I don’t know. I hope so. I think.”

“You think?” Dylan held out a frozen drink toward her. “Pomegranate, right?” She didn’t wait for an answer. “You looked like you needed a refill.”

“Thank you.” Their fingers touched briefly as she reached for the cocktail, and Briana tried not to overthink the fact that Dylan had been keeping tabs on her. “You didn’t have to do that.”

“No worries.” Dylan toasted her and took a sip of her beer. Briana enjoyed the precise way she used the tips of two fingers to wipe the foam from the edges of her mouth. Ugh, her mouth. She had full lips and a crooked smile, perfect teeth. Briana imagined the graze of their touch along her body, being kissed by her everywhere. Had she really sworn off women?

Dylan pointed at Stef and Mackenzie with her drink. “How come you seem unsure whether or not you’re rooting for them?”

“No, I am. I just don’t know Mackenzie at all.” She was always cautiously concerned about Stef’s choices. “Stef has notoriously bad taste in women,” she said, giving Dylan a window into the history.

“Ah, gotcha.” Dylan nodded. “What about you?” she asked. “How’s your taste in women?”

Briana chewed her cheek to keep from grinning. Dylan was sexy and bold, and she loved where this was going.

“Who said I date women?” She teased the straw of her drink with her tongue. Dylan wasn’t the only one with game.

“Please don’t destroy my wishful thinking by telling me that guy you were talking to has a better shot than me.” Dylan looked positively irresistible when she pouted. “I waited a whole half hour just to talk to you.”

“You could have interrupted.”

“Nah.” Even her frown was loaded with confidence. “Not my style.”

“Too bad. I could have used a lifeline.”
