About that Kiss by Harper Bliss

About that Kiss by Harper Bliss is a low angst contemporary, celebrity romance perfect for light summer reading. The book is about two Hollywood actresses at the height of their careers who meet when they are both cast in a new romantic comedy with a catch. The catch? The movie romance is between the two women.

Faye Fleming is eager to work with her idol, Ida Burton. She sees doing this movie as a no-brainer. She doesn’t mind being a trendsetter and hopes making the film will encourage other mainstream producers and directors to tackle queer themes in film. Ida Burton is just as excited to be working with Faye, however, she also has an ulterior motive for making this film. When the two A-listers get together to rehearse their first on screen kiss, sparks immediately fly. Will life imitate art?

Pros And My Favourite Parts

There is so much to love about this book. Harper Bliss is the queen of writing enticing older characters and she does it again with Ida and Faye. Bliss makes middle age look so damn hot! These women are dripping with sex appeal and when they get together, the heat burns off the page.

This novel is low angst so you don’t get many highs and lows, which really is such a delight right now. However, that’s not to say that the book doesn’t have depth. Ida is a closeted lesbian finally ready to be true to herself and meeting and falling for Faye was not on her agenda. When Faye, a seemingly straight woman kisses Ida, she’s confused about her attraction and struggles with what that means, both for her personally, and for her as a public figure. Seeing these two women tackle their personal struggles together and finding the courage to be true to themselves, made for a truly delightful read.

Cons And Heads Up

Absolutely no cons.

The Conclusion

Harper Bliss is one of those writers that never disappoints me. If you want a light read that covers coming out and toaster oven themes surrounded by steamy sex scenes and hot mature women, this is the book for you. You will thoroughly enjoy About That Kiss.

Excerpt from About that Kiss

“Okay.” I stand in front of her. “Thank you for everything. I’ve never had such a great time on location, and it was a real pleasure sharing that rooftop with you.”

“And you.” She takes my hand. “Thank you.” Her voice breaks a little the way it did during the first take of yesterday’s emotional scene. Another thing we haven’t talked about yet. So much left unsaid. But this is not the end. Who knows, maybe it’s the beginning of something. Ida needs to come out of the closet and I… I’m not sure what I need. I’ll take a good hard dose of reality to begin with.

Our kiss goodbye is chaste and sweet, like we’re just two friends saying farewell.
