The Circle Netflix TV showThe Circle is a fun reality show done by Netflix and it has so much queer rep that it makes my heart super happy.

Players move into separate apartments in the same building. They are isolated from one another and the outside world except for a specially designed social media platform that they use through screens in their apartments. This means that they get to portray themselves as anyone they want and half the fun is watching the people who are playing other people (catfish) try to fool the players who are representing themselves.

Based on these limited social interactions folks need to rate each other and the two highest rated players vote someone out.

The producers of the this show, thought, are evil geniuses and create tons of fun ways to push expectations and show who is really behind each profile.

The twists and turns will have you binging all weekend and laughing at the antics that the contestants get up to.

At the end of the season folks vote for a winner and that person walks away with $100,000 or more.

The Technical Side

This is a really well done show. The sound and visuals are great and the editing is superb. I love the production as a whole and the team behind it are really good at creating an endlessly entertaining and light piece of reality tv.

My Favourite Parts

So far every season of The Circle has had a number of queer folks and at least one lesbian in each season. YAY!

In fact the diversity in general is something to applaud Netflix on. We have folks from all races and socio economic backgrounds participating.

Heads Up

Nothing. I love it all.

The Conclusion

Sheenas Favourite Movies and TVI absolutely love how light and happy this reality show it. Reality shows often suffer from the thing of getting depressing or sad but The Circle keeps it super light and fun. I LOVE and appreciate that.

The queer rep and the unapologetic attitude to diversity is like a fresh breeze blowing through the reality TV show space. A massive shoutout to the producers for not just putting in one queer person and one black person and calling it a day on the rep.

I highly recommend The Circle. I absolutely love it and just when I think the show can’t get better they manage to do something new and exciting.

Michelle Buteau is the host and she is perfect. The witty one liners from her are often laugh to loud funny.

Bring on all the fabulousness please and thank you.

Side note: if you are going to start watching it then start with season 1. They build on each season making it bigger and better so if you watch it backwards it will feel a little meh, whereas if you start with the first season and watch it in order then it will feel wow.
