Candice Cushing and the Lost Tomb of Cleopatra by Georgette Kaplan is book two in The Cushing-Nevada Chronicles and you need to have read or listened the first book, so grab a copy of Easy Nevada and the Pyramid’s Curse if you haven’t yet.

In this instalment we follow Easy Nevada and Candice Cushing as they search for Cleopatra’s final resting place and the artefact that is buried with her. That in itself is no easy task and to make matters more complicated they also have to deal with a vengeful zealot who is hot on their trail.

We delve deeper into the relationship between Candice and Easy in this book and not only do we get that sizzling spark between them fuelled, in part, by some of the most ridiculous but amazing one liners from Easy Nevada but we also get some very real moments where they connect with more than just physical attraction.

The desert, the chemistry, the life or death situations and one of mankind’s biggest puzzles come together in this book to form a non-stop action adventure that is rare in the sector.

This is a fantastic sequel and good middle to the series. Often second books feel a bit like it’s building up to book three but this one just keeps applying the pressure and it was tons of fun.

Abby Craden’s performance was perfect. The comedy and dry wit came through, the spark between the leads, and the action and pacing were all perfectly delivered.

This one does not stand alone at all. Not even a tiny bit. So start at the beginning and worth your way through.

Spoiler:

Easy and Candice do not get together in this book which surprised me and, in fact, Kaplan makes us wait ‘till the end of book three for that to happen.

I loved it. It’s an absolutely awesome audiobook.

I was mildly concerned that it would be a let down after the first book but it delivered a strong follow up and I was thrilled. Once again I highly recommend this series especially as audiobooks.

The room’s opulence reminded Nevada of the Burj al Arab, all those years ago. Funny, how dealing with the criminal and the corrupt tended to land you in high society as much as it did the gutter. She picked her way through the antique furniture, the glass-shrouded candles waiting to be lit, the framed drawings and paintings that had given some long-ago adventurer a taste of England. There was even a Victrola in the corner.

“Don’t say I never take you anywhere nice,” Nevada said to Candice, going through her pockets to set all the contents out on the dresser. She’d be transferring them all into her clean clothes.

Candice looked out the window. The view of the plains had been replaced by the field of tukuls, now lit from the inside as dusk fell and the occupants started fires. With no chimneys, the smoke seeped up through the thatching, making the huts look disturbingly like they were burning to the ground.

“Four-star accommodations in the middle of a warzone. I don’t know whether to be impressed or…” Candice trailed off.

“Be impressed,” Nevada said. “Liberal guilt is so two thousand and late.”

“Honestly, so long as there’s shampoo, spoil me rotten. Any more of this humidity and my hair is going to become a member of Mötley Crüe.” Candice started for the bathroom, only for Nevada to hurriedly slide into a blockade, leaning against the doorframe.

“Hey,” Nevada said, toying with the hem of her tank top, pulling it up over a row of subtly delineated abdominal muscles, which Candice had to raise an eyebrow at. “Here’s a thought. Maybe it’s just that that was a choice glam rock reference, but what if we showered together? Save some water… It is the dry season, after all.”

Candice took hold of Nevada’s shoulder and shoved her to one side of the doorway as she stepped past. “And with lines like that, it’s no wonder. Does this combination of arrogance, obnoxiousness, and sexual aggression normally charm women into paroxysms of lust?”

“I wouldn’t say paroxysms,” Nevada demurred. “Probably because I don’t know what that means. But we do have some unfinished business.” Nevada ran her thumb over her lower lip. “Now that we’ve got the kids in daycare, maybe we should follow up on that kiss. Before the shower, I mean, while we’re already all sweaty and gross.”

When you use the links in this review and buy within 24 hours of clicking then we get a small commission that helps us run the site and it costs you nothing extra

Easy Nevada and the Pyramid’s Curse

Candice Cushing and the Lost Tomb of Cleopatra

You, Me, and the Sunken Treasure

ISBN number: 978-3963243042

Publisher: Ylva Publishing

Audiobook Publisher: Tantor audio

Narrator: Abby Craden

Audiobook Length: 7 hours and 8 minutes

This fantasy adventure is a fun romp with a lot of humour.
